YMCA Nutritional Class
I started a nutritional class at the YMCA from 10:30a.m to 12:00p.m. There are 15 woman student in the class. We learn about the nutritional part of the food we like. Choosing fruits and vegetables, and whole grains. Whole grains: brown rice, graham flour, whole wheat, buckwheat, bulgur, millet, whole grain corn, popcorn, whole grain barley, quinoa, wild rice, whole rye, whole grain flour, whole grain cornmeal, oatmeal or whole oats. Brown bread. Bread can be brown because of molasses or other added ingredients. It does not mean whole grain. A fancy name. Breads labeled "multigrain", "100% wheat,""cracked wheat," "seven grain," "seven grain,"" stone- ground," or "brand" are often not whole grains. You have to check the ingredient list. Whole grains after the first ingredient. This could be only a very small part of the food. It is not a whole grain. We also made Vegetable Lasagna, Tabbouleh (refreshing salad), Sweet potato fries, Baked flaked chicken, peanut butter and banana pockets and fruit smoothies. Everything was delicious. I made the vegetable lasagna at home.
